President's Message:

September 15, 2013

A message from SNA of OK President, Verleta Eckels:

Howdy, I hope everyone is having a good beginning for the new school year.

I attended the Annual National Conference in Kansas City, Missouri on July 14 ‐17, 2013, where over 7,000 attended. The National School Nutrition House of Delegates was on Saturday, July 14. The main item that was discussed was due increase, it was voted to increase national dues. The opening general session’s guest speaker was Al Rocker, Today Show co-host. He was very good and uplifting. Lisa Ling, Journalist and Co‐host, was the second general sessions guest speaker. She was very interesting and inspiring. Jarrett J. Krosoczka, Author and Illustrator, was the final general session guest speaker. He is the author/illustrator of the “Lunch Lady” graphic novel series. He was very enthusiastic and announced the Lunch Lady Super Hero Day on May 2, 2014. The food show was three days long with over 1000 vendors.

Our SNA of Oklahoma 67th Annual Conference was kicked off with a golf tournament on Monday, July 29, 2013. A bowling tournament was on Monday night with several teams participating.

Maureen G. Mulvaney, better known at MGM, was Tuesday and Wednesday’s guest speaker at General Session. She is very enthusiastic and entertaining. She got the group laughing and ready for the school year. Just remember “negative thoughts make me weak, positive thoughts make me strong”. Her enthusiasm showed how to change attitudes to increase productivity. It was wonderful to partner with the State Department of Education to hold ABVM and New Meal Pattern workshops. Thanks to all the vendors who sponsored our conference and put on a great food show. We appreciate all the vendors helping make our conference a success. There were over 400 attending the conference and 100 were new timers.

Yea ha, everyone have a great school year and keep those positive thoughts going.
